Camera Orientation, Operations, and Exposure Skills
Introduction to the camera, its operation, and basic exposure skills.
You’ll Learn: how a camera works, what the primary buttons and switches do, when to use what, and how to create a well-balanced and purposeful photograph. Expect structured practice, lots of repetition, and a digital reference document.
Student Profile: This is a beginner session for self-motivated photo enthusiasts who want to learn basic photography concepts quickly. Learning is done on location behind the camera, and students use their cameras.
Learning Level: Beginner
Cost: Private in-person sessions: $100/hour. Structured for beginners and intermediate enthusiasts.
Periodically offered as a small-group, in-person course at Central Oregon Community College.
File Organization & Management
Focused session: photo file organization, management, and safeguard practices.
You’ll Learn best practices for creating a photo file hard drive organization and storage structure, how to safely import and export files, and suggestions for creating backup processes.
Student Profile: This class is designed for those with basic computer skills.
Learning Level: Beginner & Intermediate
Cost: Private in-person or Zoom sessions: $100/hour. Small-group 4-week, twice weekly, 12-hour Zoom-only course: $245. Designed for all levels.
Periodically offered as a small-group, in-person course at Central Oregon Community College.
Basic Photo Editing
Introduction to photo editing using Adobe Lightroom.
What You’ll Learn: best practices for importing photo files, a methodical editing workflow, basic Adobe Lightroom panel explanation and editing skills, best practices for export files, including keywording and assigning file parameters.
Student Profile: This class is designed for students with basic computer skills and a Lightroom editing software subscription.
Learning Level: Beginner & Intermediate
Cost: Private in-person or Zoom sessions: $100/hour. Small-group 4-week, twice weekly, 12-hour Zoom-only course: $245. Structured for beginners and intermediate enthusiasts.
Periodically offered as a small-group, in-person course at Central Oregon Community College.
Advanced Photo Editing
Advanced photo editing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
What You’ll Learn: best practice editing approaches, how to create luminance masks, merge panoramas, exposure bracketing (stacking), and focus bracketing (stacking) files, performing regional and detail-specific edits, Photoshop layering techniques, and much more.
Student Profile: This class is designed for students with basic computer skills and an Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop software subscription.
Learning Level: Intermediate or Advanced
Cost: Private Zoom-only sessions: $125/hour. Small-group, twice weekly, 5-week, 15-hour Zoom-only course: $325. Structured for intermediate and advanced enthusiasts.
Creative Editing Techniques
Advanced creative photo editing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
What You’ll Learn: This course is for photographers who are ready to move beyond traditional representational editing techniques. The course will cover multiple-image blending, duotone techniques, abstraction skills, and more.
Student Profile: This class is designed for students with advanced computer skills and an Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop software subscription.
Learning Level: Intermediate or advanced Adobe LR & Photoshop editing skills.
Cost: Private Zoom-only sessions: $125/hour; small-group, twice weekly, 8-week, 24-hour Zoom-only course: $425. Structured for intermediate and advanced Adobe photo software users.
